Encyclopedia of Aphrodisiacs : Psychoactive Substances for Use in Sexual Practices

- +

Anthropologist and ethnopharmacologist RÌ_tch and art historian and anthropologist MÌ_ller-Ebeling have been writing books on substances used in sexual practices since the 1980s, and have now decided to collect that information and new information they have acquired into a comprehensive reference. Alphabetically arranged entries describe the substance--usually a plant--its use as an aphrodisiac, and other uses. The entry might also contain recipes, explanation of constituents and dosage, molecular diagrams, and photographs and drawings. Each ends with a substantial list of literature. Introductory chapters consider how to use aphrodisiacs, how they work, who is afraid of them, the five senses as sources of erotic experience, and aphrodisiacs in art.
